Offer from A & M K-12 Rural Medicine Outreach

Howdy!
We are excited to offer the School to Scrubs ECHO series again this Spring! The 3-session series is free professional development for school counselors and administrators in rural Texas school districts. Please see the information below.
What is School to Scrubs ECHO?
  • The Texas A&M University Telehealth Institute is partnering with the Texas A&M University College of Medicine K-12 Rural Medicine Outreach Program to offer a specialized ECHO program aimed at supporting school counselors and administrators in rural Texas districts! This program is designed to help counselors and administrators guide students interested in pursuing a medical degree, providing them with the tools, resources, and knowledge to navigate the path from high school to medical school. Through expert-led sessions by our Texas A&M School of Medicine Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Chris Diem, and collaborative learning, participants will gain insights to better support their students' aspirations in the medical field.
The 3-session series will be held on Thursdays via Zoom from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM
free continuing education credit will be offered each session (up to 3 FREE CEs)!
Program Schedule:
  • February  5: Overview of the Pre-Med Pathway
  • February 12: Medical School Admissions Process
  • February 19: Mentoring and Networking for Aspiring Medical Students
Register Today! (If you have registered previously for School to Scrubs ECHO, you do not need to register again; you will be sent a calendar invite from iECHO with new session dates and times)
Feel free to share this ECHO program with other school professionals who might benefit from joining! We also encourage you to allow your students to listen during each session and ask questions if needed!
If you have any questions at all, please let me know.
We hope to see you there!

Letters to Santa from a small town

Below are some excerpts of elementary school students' Dear Santa letters. They're from Hico, a TREA Member District, but they are probably typical of the ones printed in your local small town paper in December.  There are the usual requests for toys and video games,  wishing Santa a safe trip, wondering how he can eat all those cookies, etc.    I picked these because they're a little different.  Some are funny, some are tear jerkers.

Even though it's been years since I've lived in Hico, I still take the paper and the first thing I do is read my friend, former board member,  and paper owner Jerry McAdams' editorial column.  One of those is reprinted in this blog, it's about moving to a small town, and you should read it.  Then again, it's the most popular read on the blog at over 4500 hits, so maybe you already have.  I moved it toward the top of the list in case you haven't.
